McKinney-Vento Act

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law that helps ensure that homeless children and youth in Kentucky have access to the same free public education as other children.  The act's purpose is to promote educational success for homeless children and youth by ensuring they have equal access to free, appropriate public education.  McKinney-Vento funds can be used for a variety of purposes, including college applications, transportation, tutoring, and more. Requirements for homeless students apply to all districts, regardless of whether they receive a McKinney-Vento grant. The act emphasizes breaking down barriers for homeless children and unaccompanied youth, including providing immediate enrollment and services.
